TINY KICKER COORDINATOR
- Check WAYSC hotline. During the summer months and soccer season it is important check the hot line every few days for messages. During off months check once a week. Keep a journal of all messages. (To retrieve messages call 1847 622-3500, when the recording comes on press # 847 289-4167, then when you hear the voice enter the tiny kicker extension 7482#)
- Return calls in regard to the Tiny Kicker program
- Organize teams. Teams are co-ed; try to have an even number of boys and girls on each team. This will not always work out but try. You will need to have an even number of teams. Check the registration forms for any friend or coach requests. We do not guarantee the requests but do our very best to accommodate everyone. The 4 year old program has six children per team, and the 5 year old program has eight children per team.
- Distribute team roster.
- Acquire coaches and assistant coaches. Each team must have a head coach and preferably an assistant coach. On the registration forms there is a space that people can mark yes if interested in coaching. Call these people that show interest as soon as you get the registration. Coaches are required to attend as many training sessions offered by WAYSC as possible. All coaches and assistant coaches will be required to fill out and turn in a Disclosure Statement for a background check and a WAYSC code of conduct form. These forms must be turned in before the coaches meet with the children. Find one coach for each night to have a key to open the Tiny Kicker equipment box. That way you will not need to be there every Monday and Tuesday to open and close the box
- Create and distribute a game schedule. The Tiny Kickers use the first half hour for instruction and skill training. The second half is used for a game like situation. The 5year olds play 5 versus 5 including the goalie, and the 4 year olds play 3 versus 3 without a goalie. There will be children sitting out that need to be subbed in. It is important that the coaches give each child fair playing time. You will need to make a game schedule that is distributed to all the coaches and players. You need to organize the schedule so that all the teams get to play each other usually twice, depending on how many total teams you have.
- Make sure to check the elementary school calendars for holidays and happenings after school when creating the schedule
- Stripe the Tiny Kicker fields once a week. Each field should be labeled TK 1, TK 2, TK 3, and TK 4. Tiny kicker fields measure 100 yards in length and 50 yards wide. Before the first fall and spring session begins you will need to measure out and set up the fields. This can be done alone but is much easier with at least one other person to help. In the equipment box there will be a white rope that is used to measure out the length and width of the playing fields. The rope measures 100 yards in length. Using stakes tie off the end of the rope and walk it across the field and mark the other end with another steak. Use spray paint to then mark each corner. While the rope is still tied off walk it back marking the half way point. This is where your center line will be so mark that as well. While the rope is at 50 yards you can walk it across and mark the corner for the field's width. At that time with the rope still tied off walk it back and mark the midway point of 25 yards for the goalie box. Continue until you have completed the field. You will then need to repeat this for as many fields as you need. We usually need three fields with a 25 yard space between fields. Then using the striper also located in the equipment box stripe off your fields.
- Attend WAYSC board meetings
- Check fields for playing condition
- It is the Coordinators responsibility to determine weather or not conditions are good for playing. The league rule stands that if lightning has been seen or thunder heard the fields must be evacuated immediately. There has to have been a full half hour of not lightning or thunder to play again. Watch the current weather updates at home to determine weather or not you should call the games. You will need to make this determination no later than 1 hour before game time so that everyone has time to be notified. You will need to contact all your coaches. The coaches are responsible to notify their teams. If there has been a lot of rain go out and check the fields for playing conditions. If there is standing water on the fields you will need to cancel. We play soccer unless there is dangerous weather, severely cold or a down poor of rain.
- Notify coaches of rain outs. You will need to update your game schedules and communicate to all the coaches of any changes or make up dates.
- Organize and run (with the WAYSC board) a coaches' meeting prior to the start of practices (early August at the latest). The meeting should include distribution of all necessary WAYSC rule, guidelines and manuals, schedules, maps, etc. There should also be a first aid clinic included at this meeting. All necessary coaches' paperwork will be filled out and submitted to the IYSA coordinator
- Submit any equipment needs and soccer ball needs for the following season to the equipment director by the June meeting. Submit any uniform needs to the Uniform Director by July 1st
